Even though this might not be 100% historically accurate, this is 100% enjoyable! I love Octavian in this story, because he seems aware that his life isn't really perfect. He's powerful, but he's also lonely and probably overworked. He might sound jaded, but I believe that his heart is still pure. (At least he accepts the fact that he will die one day. Some emperors are so scared of Death that they end up drugging themselves and so on.)

very good. a couple of errors, such as the fact Augustus Caesar NEVER allowed anyone to worship him as a god in his lifetime. He was only elevated to a deity in death. over all a good piece, though

This is a good monologue but...not totaly in going with the persona od Augustus. One must remember that he took up power at the time he was 18, and before that he had been trained by Caesar. He also would not see himself as a coward. He had a very fragile constitution which prevented him from being the warrior that his uncle was but that does not mean that he was a coward. He faced aff against Brutus and Cassius, agaist Antony, against Clepatra and the whole senate as practically a poor begar and not fully recognised as the heir of Caesar. He managed to make the senate obsolete, not cojole it to do his bidding. He also was the young man who marched on Rome with an army to demand the consulship and then was able to face the army and not give into its demands blindly, but led it like a shepherd leads his flock. Sorry if I sound defencive but I love Augustus and don't like people thinking of him as anything other than great.

A beautifully written story. I wonder if that was how Augustus actually felt? It would seem probably weird to someone to have been called Octavian and then switched to Augustus if only to try to live up to his predeccesor. I'm sure it put great strain on him as well, which you wonderfully showed. Him trying to live up to his uncle's name yet differ himself still. Loved it.

I was just reading a book about the Roman Republic and what do I find here? This great and reflective story! It has a great insight of this Augustus. Have any more historical figures you would like to write about?

This is good. I understand how Octavian feels. How about another historical figure? :)
