Zil Saul 2006-05-30 . chapter 1 You'd think by the way you write this that you were right there in the middle of the battlefied that you've created in the reader's mind. The thing with the flies was original and still true, and you're not all vague. Like how most people are always just "there was the smell of death and the blood and the gore and the sound of the death and the dying of the peoples and the corpses and the yaah, I'm so angsty." You tell us what's what and aren't all ominous about it. Death really isnt as complicated as most people make it out to be. That's why it scares us so much, I think.People do tend to never mention this side of the whole "war and glory" thing. They make it all about "defending your country" and avoid the topic of what really goes on on the battlefield, during and after, for both the losers and the self-appointed "winners". Like you said, it's human nature to rephrase and alienate things that we dont think we can handle, just as the media focuses on the nobility and not the aftermath. Thanks for writing this piece, short though it may be. Maybe it will give a good wakeup call to someone who needs it. Er... |
