Reviews For: We Are the Champions: Sports Teams in Our Culture

ch 1, anon.
abuseGood essay, but a few points: With a min. wage of 300,0 dollars, how might a pro-athlete on a baseball team be considered "poor" in rich-vs-poor? If anything, I would consider baseball teams more like feuding "aristocratic factions" rather than class wars. Many times, self-proclaimed champions of the 'everyman' are anything but. Remember the Herbert quote that went something like- "The 'liberal and conservative' is a false dictonomy. Behind every liberal, there is a closet aristocrat." Championing the "everyman" is how politicians often come to power, and the politicians respond by viewing the 'everyman' as pawns.

I'd think fan relations to sports teams is not unlike different mobs in a riot. Thankfully, though, there is little violence involved (most of the time). Though British football/soccer riots are an exception.

Overall, though, a good essay.
