I am open minded, but that certainly doesn't mean that I agree with everything you say. To have an open mind is to be willing to consider other opinions and points of view, not necessarily to agree with them. I have used my open mind to consider many of these ideas before, and have looked at them from several different points of view, and I still disagree. You strongly implied in the authors note that if a person opened her mind she would immediately agree and no longer be offended. Doesn't the further implication that these ideas are completely right seem pretty closed minded?

This is not a flame i just figured i would message you and correct you on one minor flaw in this story. I do agree for the most part about the goths and punks section, except for - Gothic did not start as an outcasted tribe. It started in architecture. A term for the old buildings with many high arches, for an image look at a really old church. Anyways I do like your writing and this really isnt a flame - if you think it is you really do not know constructive critisism-

You told it like it is--people really do need to open up the closed doors of their mind and let new thoughts and ideas in.Or maybe their ignorance is their bliss and they'd rather stay like that and the expense at the rest of us -_-

1. I agree...I heard him in some interviews and the man is articulate and intelligent. He's weird and eccentric appearance wise...but the man is just being true to himself. 2. I don't waste time talking or thinking about her. She's a prime example of why I'm not a fan of media created celebrities.3. It's all about self image...if people are happy with themselves then all the talk won't matter and it'll stop. However most people want others' acceptance so they'll listen and as long as there are listeners people will talk.4. Everything has got to fit in a category or otherwise it won't make sense to people. Society likes to put things in boxes that way they feel that they know and are in control of things.5. People misuse a lot of terms...the average person just doesnt understand things sometimes.6. I'm with you...any prejudice is wrong. I can't stand people who are homophobes because all anyone wants is love...and if it's with the same sex, oh well. Love is all they want.7. Religion...that's just not my cup of tea. That's all personal beliefs and therefore I respect people's various beliefs and don't get into those debates.

I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately, our society is too "sheepish" and "close-minded" to even bother to think about any of these things. I believe they'll mature when they get older, but some "adults" are unfortunately worse than the youth. Hopefully this is a phase that will pass.
