lotrdeana17 2009-11-18 . chapter 40
That's it? I mean, I know you've started a sequel, but there are so many things left unfinished here. It feels like it just stops without any resolution. What happened at the 10 year reunion you kept flash forwarding to? There was nothing conclusive there, only frustrating hints about what happened. Is that the first time Adam and Blake have seen each other in all those years? What do they say to each other when he walks over to him? And their senior year of high school, what happened to the rest of that year? Did they just avoid each other for all those months? Their breakup feels so unrealistic and harsh. First Blake asks Adam to marry him, then just flat out leaves him when Adam breaks down and needs him the most. Very disappointing. I was not proud of either of them, or their decisions toward each other.

I think you're a great writer and I was completely wrapped up in your story, but the end felt extremely abrupt and unresolved, leaving me feeling like it was all for nothing. The teaser to the sequel just frustrates me, so I don't know if I should start reading it. It's like they want to put themselves through more agony.

You've got a great story here, don't get me wrong. I was mesmerized right from the beginning. Your style, switching back and forth between narrators, past and future, was disconcerting, but I enjoyed reading it until the end. I want to know more about the story and the characters.

I also loved how your portrayed the parents reactions. They felt more realistic than most authors write about. It was good to see that there was a gradual change in their attitude, finally leading toward acceptance. I thought that was nicely handled.

As for Adam and Blake, I thought Adam was the more self-centered of the two. At first I thought I would like him better, but I really felt more for Blake as the story progressed. Adam seemed so cold sometimes. That's why I'm leery about reading the sequel. It's from his point of view, right?

Well, even if it left me feeling sad and bitter, I liked reading your work. Very nice writing. You've really got the ability to string your reader along with tantalizing bits of plot to keep them interested. You also have some very eloquent asides. So overall, I'd your story and I have a love-hate relationship. I was enthralled, reading it as fast as I could, wanting to know what happened, then crushingly sad at the end. So you succeeded in making me feel the trauma of their emotions.

In my opinion, it could use some improvement, such as fleshing out the ending more precisely, but it's a wonderful, heartbreaking story. I admire your skill. Good luck with your future writing!

wow.
Possibly the best story i've read on FP. I'm so sad that's all, but i'm so glad it is. The ending was...i can't describe it. I loved it. Definately a favourite, i'll have to read the sequel now =D

Just wanted to say that I'm listening to the August Rush soundtrack, and it just so happened to play August's Rhapsody. That music combined with this whole chapter gave me goosebumps and made me swoon lol.
I'll leave a better comment when I'm done reading C:

OHMUHFRIKKINGAWSH! You did not, I repeat, did NOT just leave it like that! Haha jk The sequel makes up for that. haha But seriously, this is one of the most amazing stories I've read. I was hesitant at first because it kinda moved slow (compared to other stories), and I guess I was so used to that. Now I see it was a good thing because honestly it usually takes time for you to truly fall in love realistically. I also was a bit confuzzled with the flashbacks & etc, but I became quite fond of them. It really added to the story--something that would have been lacking otherwise. Gosh, I want to say so much, but my brain is like fried. I basically read ALL 41 chapters in a day, so sorry if this isn't the best review. I'll stop this review before it becomes ramblings and lame. lol Keep on writing, and I'll keep on reading! :)

What...
Aw, jeez. Well I'm seriously disappointed. Not that they boys didnt get married and live happily ever ever, but because they broke up in they way that they did. It was all sudden and rush rush rush, feelings feelings feelings. Which, yes, break ups can be like, but I didnt really see it coming for these characters.

It's probably just me (it's usually just me) but the whole future arc made it seem like you would eventually LEAD the story into the future and we'd get to find out what happened. It SOUNDED like Adam was with someone, that he had gotten married, but obviously to some other boy.

At the very least when I realized the story was almost over I figured maybe the sequel would be the future arc. But its not! I've been had this whole time! :(

Oh well, I'm bummed. I wont be reading the sequel since I'm not all that interested in the separate stories of college life. Especially when it only focuses on one of the main characters.

All that aside up until this chapter I REALLY loved this story, and I had a fun time reading it. I'll just pretend Adam and Blake rekindled things after ten years. ;) -FG

oh. my. **. GOD i love you!

this story is amazing in a rare way- i think youve taken a rather cliche setting, quite honestly. your characters are regular teenagers, with VERY NORMAL issues. and despite that, youve managed to keep me hooked for 4 hours straight on a day before one of my exams. when i think about it, in terms of plot, there isnt much that happens here that i havent read of before [sorry if im being blunt]. but theres something to be said about the brilliance of being able to maintain interest through 40 chapters without using vampires, werewolves, aliens, sexually abusive parents and/or suicidal head cases. i think a lot of that can be attributed to your writing style.

while the back and forth thing takes a while to get used to, it really adds a lot to the story. i couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia hanging over the entire story, even when the characters WEREN'T reminiscing. it was lovely, in a kind of sad but a really nice way too, you know?

while your characters are realistic, with all their shortcomings and idiosyncrasies, theres also something very idealistic about the whole thing- something that makes you go "ah! the naivety!!" its like the characters are trying really REALLY hard to hold onto this feeling of a ONE true love. while most people, characters, whatever, eventually give up, or, in an unrealistic turn of events, actually DO manage to find a happy ending so quickly it feels painfully contrived, all your characters are hopeful in a very particular way.

im going to move on to reading the sequel, it should be fun... although if youve given a rotten ending to the characters... i will cry. i would suggest that you try writing about something less written about, but that would be risking one of the best highlights of your story- i dont know how much the story would be true to you if there was too much unasked for drama in it... so i guess ill retract that comment :D

sorry for the rant!
[ps i hope you still care about this story- often, by the time i get to review a story that i think is amazing the author's moved on and cant relate to the elation i feel about the story, or one of their characters...]

I spent nearly the entire day reading this and I love it, especially the character of Adam. He's so deliciously witty and fresh. Great job. ;)
steph297 2008-12-22 . chapter 40
In order to leave the future sequence as open-ended, you really needed to end with that. It feels unfinished, like you just dropped the storyline or something.
The Crazy Freak 2008-12-17 . chapter 40
OK, I almost cried reading the last chapter. T__T I was just, like:"NO!" Seriously, it's so sad. =(

Normally, I don't mind sadder endings (I even like them sometimes), but for Adam and Blake I wanted a happy ending SO BADLY. It's just...They've both grown on me so much and after all they've been through they totally deserve one.
So...Since you left the high school reunion open for us (the readers) to finish it in our heads the way we want to, I'm just gonna imagine that after the reunion they still kept in contact and eventually ended up back together. =D
Cuz that's the way it should be and I won't accept anything else. xD

Anyway, this is story is such an amazing read. I can safely say it's my favourite story on FictionPress. Your writing style is so...I don't know..Along with the plot, it attracts you to the story, you just want more, more, more...
And the characterization of the people..amazing. I also loved the dialogue. I can't find any other words for this story, but PURE PERFECTION. ^__^
And you're incredible. =)

Okay, this is how far I got today. I wanted to read farther, but chapter 27 doesn't wanna work!! NO!! Why isn't it working?!! Does anyone know that? D= I'm going crazy because of it!

Anyway, just wanted to say that I'm SO hooked to this story, that instead of studying for my second Physics exam (I almost failed the first one, BTW) I just keep on reading this story.

Seriously, people, that's how incredible it is!!

Gonna read more tomorrow...(and PRAY that chapter 27 works by then)
