Sparrow Still Sings 2006-06-16 . chapter 1While over all I did enjoy this, it seemed like it moved a bit too fast, too rushed.
I've re-read it a few times, and yet these characters still dont seem to be very believable or realistic.
I like the concept of this though - it just seems a bit unpolished and a bit unfinished. The thought of a girl who is experiencing some family problems finds solace in gaining an obsession with a movie star.
I think this fact could have been dragged out a little bit. A bit more detailed and developed.
The part where the mother comes in and proceeds to drag down the posters and destory the tapes. It made me quirk an eyebrow.
Ending was nice a nice touch and it truly leaves the fact open that Joe means more than anything.I cant help but think that those tears for grandpa must have been a faked reaction to get her mother to go away.
Its an odd thing about me, but I'm still not quite sure if I like or dislike the repeated use of "Elaina"It invokes a certain feeling coming from it - it makes it seem like everything is about this Joe fan. Yet...I am sorry, its a bit difficult to explain. Reading the name so many times in such a sort space might just irk me a bit in the back of the neck.
The first paragraph was a real gem.
"Not the whole movies, she had them memorized.""she thought Joe was handsome and the smartest man in the world."this sketches a nice vivid image on just how deep her liking of him as dived in.It begins to give a slight creep feeling to it - but then it seems to loose that and does not pick up on that horror feeling till the last sentence in the story.
"The plates had been a wedding gift, and the roses were starting to fade just like the marriage."
Wow. Now this part blew me away. There is not much more I can say besides that.
Oh, and thanks for your review :DI'm off now to go read some of your other pieces.
