It reminds me of Eragon a tiny little bit aswell, even your writting style, while not as developed, is similar. Pretty good, although you tend to tell instead of show. Next time you read a book (may I recommend Scott Westerfeld's 'Midnighters', or 'Uglies' series) pay close attention to how the writter gradually sets up a setting. Coming out and saying all of it in the first chapter seems rushed. Likewise, character development is better used than explained. Keep writting!
