I mean, if you went into a shop to buy food and told the shopkeeper that you shouldn't have to pay because 'money is the root of all evil and we'd all be much better of with out it' would they serve you? No, didn't think so.

LOL, that was the funniest part of the chapter right there. One grammatical error that I keep noticing is that when one of your characters are speaking, you never use a punctuation mark at the end. It's nothing big, but you should fix it. All right, that was a good, strong start!

You know what? I really love this story, and I'm going to keep reading it the next chance I have. (*grumbles and glares at stack of homework*) I can really relate-- the summer after next I'm going to Europe for my senior trip, and I'm going to have to fundraise about $5,0. -_-; Yeah, it's a lot, but I can totally relate with Jennifer (does she go by Jenny or Jen? I'm getting the feeling that only her teachers call her that. ^^;) because of it.

Anywho, it's definitely a great first chapter! It really drags the reader in (without making them even want to kick and scream =P) and keeps them firmly entangled in the story. You'd better keep updating this! :]

Poor Jen!...she went through the experience of Murphy's Law, I personally haven't, and I hope I won't...great chapter though, Calvin seems like an okay person...can't wait until the next chapter.
