I like the way that you personify the music throughout. As well as the way that you put the music so far above the general school life.

You could maybe add where the talking and laughing is coming from, it might enhance the atmosphere and the foil of the music against the environment.

"the sweetly harsh melody" I get teh idea you want to convey but I don't like the way that you do it. Reword this a bit.
