I can't really tell if you're for or against secularization or if you're just out to inform others of it (I will say that I read it but not too closely so it may be me, not your writing).

I personally believe that society should be secular and that one where religion plays such a huge role is not going to be successful. I think that eventually society will become secular only because looking back on the past, we have made great strides considering we went from Puritans to what we have now. I do not believe government (at least the one in the US) is largely secular. Presidential candidates have sought the endorsements of many influential pastors. This shows that religion still plays a large role in government. It also is the big reason why gay marriage and other issues are so fully opposed because it goes against what their religion dictates. The influence in government is obvious because in reality, other than religion, there is no reason to oppose it.

It was a well written essay that is truly fascinating. NIce work on trying to inform others.

Well yeah, Religion really doesn't play much of a role in American society today and to be honest I really don't think it should. Not everybody shares the same beliefs, and to have everybody follow the Christian belief and let it's values govern us is plain wrong. Mainly because many of the things that the Christian groups (Mormons, Catholics, etc...) law they 've put for their people to determine whats wrong and what's right really isn't God's words. My opinion on religion is that we really shouldn't run a society with the bible mainly because the bible we read is very much abridged and we really aren't following the full story of it. That, I'm not atheist, I am Christian, but I am strongly against organized religious groups, televangelism, and Christian Laws put forwards. I mean honestly, would Jesus really want his christian followers to be in several religious sects thousands of years later running around telling each other they're beliefs are wrong though they come from the same faith? It just doesn't feel right. THis was a good essay. I'm glad you wrote this, and I'm glad that you liked the Great Stoned Age. I'll be doing some updating on that as soon as a month goes by. I recently quit smoking, and I'm trying to ease the need. Thank you for your time.

"A secular government focuses less on the controversial issues of morals, and more on the practical ethics of the society it governs."

This doesn't make sense.

Another thing: Nazi Germany wasn't theocratic.
