| Seth Greenwood 2006-10-20 ch 1, | abuseI'd like to start in saying that as a whole, this is a pretty good message. But there are a few things that need to be straightened out. First, it is known for certain that it was written by John, and second, he was not exiled on Patmos, but rather shipwrecked on his way to Rome. It was then that he was bitten by a snake, and he was later granted this vision. Now some of the stuff you said about literalness of some things does hold water, but some things, if not most, are most likely literal. Keep in mind that this is the supernatural. You'll notice a very large difference between when the earth is still fine and after it's destroyed or in heaven. This leads me personally to believe that John writes, for the great majority, literally. It may seem hard to believe, but again: this is the supernatural. As for the end being near, remember that this was written c. 20 years ago and was as true then as now. When John and others talk about the end being near, they don't mean in our human terms, but God's. After all, he created time and is thus not tethered by it. On the other hand, many prophecies in Revelation and books such as Daniel have come true already: wars and rumors of wars, the reestablishment of Israel, and the list goes on (by the way, the US is probably so blessed because of our Israeli alliance; God did say he would "bless those who bless you" to Abraham, and He doesn't go back on His word). Phew, this has got to be the longest review I've ever written. Anyways, keep it up! All to Jesus, Seth Greenwood |
