I can somewhat relate to this poem. I always feels depressed when I look at city lights, especially New York city(though, probably for different reasons that you).

have you ever gone to the beach at night and looked at the city from the water? it's lovely. go with a friend sometime. when the beach is calm, and it's just you and your friend and the water, but you can see and hear the city lights. i do it entirely too often. but that's what this reminded me of, only the last verse was cliche and a killjoy.
