Delete this account right now 2006-11-18 . chapter 1This was excellently put. It is nice to see a philosopher that has fulfilled something of which (I believe, but am not sure that) Francis Bacon said: "Philosophy inclineth men to atheism, but depth in philosophy leadeth a man to God."
To have a continuance of God, one must have these: faith, hope and charity (love).
Why faith?
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. " (Hebrews 11:6)
And for all your mentionings of experience, I would have to say experience is important but only since it leades to hope. So then...
Why hope?
"And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." (Romans 5:3-5)
and
"For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it." (Romans 8:24-25)
Why charity(love)?
"He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." (1 John:8)
And likewise we know that to grow in knowledge of God, we must grow in Christ and accept His sacrifice. Because, seeing the Trinity that all within are one, if you wish to accept God the Father, then how can you reject God the Son, when He is part of the Father?
We also know, that truly if you grow in God, it is not your doing. By your philosophies or readings, you aren't growing in knowledge of Him, but by the Holy Ghost, the Spirit Christ graciously gives us, do ever you grow in Him.
To be His follower, you are in fellowship with Him. If He is the Light, then His Light must then shine upon you, and your light should not be hidden under a bush for it is not your light but God's. Thus, the best way to grow in knowledge of Him is to take your cross daily, deny yourself, abide in His commandments and abide in Him.
You put it well. You wrote well. Kudos.
