Dan seems like a great guy. Geez, I've always been a sucker for shy silent types. Lol. Anyway, I like the story and the characters are really lovable, and your grammar's not bad. All you need are a few improvements here and there.

You're story ideas and writing is good, but everytime someone talks you also attach it to "spat". Usually when someone uses that word it's to show anger and everytime you use it, you're actually misusing it. It's like your characters are bipolar, going from normal to angry to back to normal to anger all over again. I highly recommend you fix it!
