A bit of constructive critizm regarding your choice of word: In the line, '"Who's there?" screamed a muffled voice in the background,' perhaps instead of using the word 'screamed', you might use 'shouted' or 'called'. 'Screamed' seems like she was scared, and not just calling to see who was there.
