I also wrote my first poem after the death of a dear friend. This is exactly how I felt. Since I did not completely understand death (it was the first close death of someone in my life) I felt he was just gone on vacation, "Always awaiting a reunion that will never come." It's an interesting feeling of emptiness and shallow hope, to me.
