abuseThis is a lot of fun. Is this a short-story, a novella, or what? If it's a novella, you may be revealing far too much in the first chapter, though if not, the pacing is good.

abuseA very well-written sci-fi story. I must say, this has some echoes of Frank Herbert and Gene Wolfe's post-historic "Book of the New Sun" series. You might enjoy those.

abuseHey, Will. Awesome story you got here. I meant to read it a little while back, then quickly forgot. Sorry.

Anyways, lots of neat things went on in this one. Stalkforth and Grefa's back-and-forth(s) were amusing. The Mogavie System Mutilator bit was great, too. Lumina does some crazy stuff to people.

The Hymn of the Circling Hawks was bizarre/wonderful to read. The Lantern Hawks and Lampflowers are interesting concepts.

Traveling through null-space sounds like quite a feat. Good work describing it.

The Golden Core/Lazar-Om sounds surreal. I like the fact that it's built upon old ruins. And Goldenpath seems like quite an impressive figure (but I guess that's part of the requirements for being Grand Patriarch).

The politics within the story are compelling as well. How Andredony has to face its own as new foes because the culture has been established on warfare for so long.

Stalkforth has a uniquely pessimistic sense of fatalism that is apparent when he uses the nova-pulse not only once, but over and over. He's bound to finish the war--and I guess he doesn't really care by what means he does so. Nothing matters, save Lumina.

And the ending! Evacuating to Lumina, turning Lamptown into Lampcity. Trema becoming Emperor by default. The rest of Andredony seems to think they can recuperate, but Stalkforth knows better. Lumina will take them prisoner.

Again, sorry I didn't read/review this sooner. This, like everything else of yours I've read, is a gem.

abuseI'm interested in reading this story, but the incredible bulk of the text is driving me away! Please consider putting stories of this length into chapters so it's easier to read.
