Wow you're updating really fast! The transition to the flashback was a little confusing, but that's all. So did Jer just leave his sister there when he ran? And a lord is chasing Jer, I'll assume. So if Jer is running all the way to the Islands, this lord must be pretty powerful.

you've got an interesting plot here - i wonder what exactly is going on. you've kept it mysterious for the first chapter, but i'm sure you'll let on more in the next few chapters.

as for style, you describe everything pretty well except for the main character himself. maybe you did that purposely... but if you didn't, i'd like to know what this guy looks like.

you've got pretty good grammar and spelling (great job! that's rare to come by here. ;D) and the plot is moving fast enough so as not to be boring, but slow enough so as not to be summary. it's a good start; hope you continue. keep writing!
