| sugaplumprincess 2008-07-01 ch 23, | abuseI meant to review when this chapter came out, but of course got sidetracked. I just wanted to say that it completely made my day. I'm glad to see Clark progressing and glad to see that he'll soon be joining the main cast for the fun times in the castle. I would like to see more Torsten though, with all the shifting about he's less prominent now. Also, the animals cleaning was absolute gold. I'm looking forward to the next update, whenever that may be! |
| Nara Merald 2008-06-30 ch 23, | abuseLoved this story so far! The humor is amusing (leading me to undignified snorting at times) and I truly can't wait for Jade to get in the Overlord's pants. |
| Sally Can Wait 2008-06-29 ch 2, | abuseWow...so I said my review was from the review game. But obviously you didn't do that. I clicked on the wrong story. xD I don't even know how that happened. BUT I am glad that I ended up reading yours, it is very entertaining. Just to clear that up. xD Sally |
| Sally Can Wait 2008-06-29 ch 1, | abuseReview game. :D The dialogue was interesting in the contrast between characters. Initially it gave the evil overlord a strangely modern feel, which added to his magic, as if it made him more powerful and more complex. Although the characters didn't exactly get much detail yet, as this had a lot of action, they were very distinct from each other. Be sure to not make anyone cliched: your plot sounds very unique, so make sure you try to keep all aspects that way. :D You have good flow. It's interesting because you have a mix of old and modern wording throughout the story - it gives it a unique feel. Spelling and grammar seem to be in check. :D I might suggest telling about an important character who doesn't die in this chapter, or give more about the overlord, so the reader has someone to get attached to. It will help make people want to continue. :D From your summary, the plot seems TOTALLY COOL. And unique. :O And really makes me want to read more. :D I'll be checking out the second chapter soon. :) Sally |
| Spideymint 2008-06-19 ch 23, | abuseAha, the REAL magical overlord-killing talisman. I TOTALLY called that. And now... Oh, the suspense! :o Clark and Ordarnis are both awesome. I need some more of them in my life pretty soon, if you don't mind? *please?* |
| Zaziel 2008-06-16 ch 23, | abusei KNEW you'd be able to work this in somehow! whistle while you work! |
| sapphirekitten 2008-06-15 ch 23, | abuseHi! I've been following this story for a long time already, but this is the first time I've reviewed. I just thought I should let you guys know how much I LOVE this story!! It's so hilarious and awesome! I completely adore Ordarnis and Torsten and Baldor and (more recently) Clark!!XD And Jade is really cool! I like strong female characters. I'm getting more and more curious about the mystery behind Clark's birth and I'm wondering if Ordarnis will ever fall in love with Jade.-_-' I was thrilled when she admitted to herself that she was in love with him!XD Well, anyways I can't wait for the next chapter! Bye.^_^ sapphirekitten |
| Mistress DragonFlame 2008-06-15 ch 23, | abuseOh, I love how you have it that Jade attracts all the 'weird' animals. |
| aneman333 2008-06-15 ch 23, | abuseThat was a very entertaining chapter. It's good to see the progression of Ordarnis and Jade's relationship. As always, I look forward to your next chapter. I'm also curious about Clark- I really hope he doesn't end up like the others. He seems different, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, good luck and update soon! |
| SubStandardDeviation 2008-06-04 ch 22, | abuseI recently discovered your story through The AntiElf Society and suffice to say I'm enjoying it immensely. The characters (well, most of them) are intelligent and likeable, the prose is paced well, and the world is well drawn, even if I'm not sure where all the countries are. I especially loved how the Northern characters make reference to ice dragons when dealing with similar situations, because it just seems like something they'd do. As always, there are things you could improve on: I'd expect a collaboration, especially, to have impeccable spelling and grammar. The word is "peeked", by the way. Some of the Evil Overlord Cliches seem to be thrown in just to "check off one more on the list", but you've been doing that a lot less lately. While you're a long way from Jordanitis, be careful not to make the story too complicated. While the overall plot(s) will involve Glib's "revenge" against Ordarnis, you've also managed to drag in Camilla's rescue, Jade/Ord's romance, Drusilla/Jade's catfight (whatever happened to that subplot, anyway? By the way, snakes are cliche. Effective, but cliche), Clark's quest, Clark's parentage, Clark's dragon(?), the Overlord-killing talisman, the rebellion in Ebaea, and now the Drakonian Court--and that's not including possibly relevant backstory about Edwin, Ord's powers/weakness, the demise of the last 40 Overlords, and Baldor's sidekickness. I'm not discouraging you from having a lot of subplots, but be sure you actually resolve all of them. (And don't neglect Torsten, either - even though he's not a key player, he's still my favorite character.) Be careful that Jade doesn't become a "Mary Sue". So far she's a Tomboy Princess(tm), intelligent/witty, member of the public advisors, ever-helpful with the servants, shows up everywhere, and in a heavily-foreshadowed romance with the main character. Now that she's confessed her love, hopefully she'll stop monopolizing the plot. Clark having a random weakness...hmm. Hopefully next chapter we'll see Drusilla at Court. And since a review is supposed to end on a positive note...I love your chapter naming scheme. Keep it up! |
| Reiko x 3 2008-05-30 ch 22, | abuseSomehow I doubt young Clark is going to be all Glib wants him to be. The kid has sense for one thing. Dark: And for another he's just so...un-hero-ish. He's just a kid with no bloody clue as to what he's supposed to be doing. A smart one at that. Seems to me he'd be more likely to end up helping Ordarnis than attempting to kill him. On another note, I see that there seems to be a little...relationship in the works for Jade and our dear Overlord. Wonder how long it'll be before he notices... Update soon please. I can hardly wait to see what happens next. Ja ne! |
| TheKnaveOfSpades 2008-05-30 ch 1, | abuseThank the lord! You have no idea, no IDEA, how much I love it when the "bad guy" is the good guy. A story like this is the answer to my prayers. And there are plenty more chapters for me to read, hurray! I'm enjoying this quite a bit so far, and I will review again once I've finished reading the rest of this story! The Knave |
| Air Gear 2008-04-22 ch 22, | abuseThis is SUCH a brilliantly thought-out story; it takes all the old good/evil conceptions and really switches them around. The so-called 'evil Overlord' seems more and more like a GOOD person who is trying to, perhaps 'live down' his family is not a good way to put it, but certainly 'escape' their reputation and the paranoia it has clearly caused him. On the other end of the coin, the 'heroes' are all nit-wits clinging to ideals and methods that are quite out of date, while the princes are, or at least have become, malicious self-serving jerks. At the same time, it maintains the 'classic' fairy tale feel that is largely responsible for why we all became fans of the genre in the first place. I mean, come on, who doesn't see what's going to happen with Clark from a mile away? The only characters I dislike are the ones I'm supposed to, and every single other one is interesting and in their own way, awesome. Especially Casse; sassy little accountant. But perhaps the person I'm most interested in of all is Glib. Who is he, why does he hate the Overlord line so much, and will there be an epic battle between himself and Ordarnis? Hopefully those questions will be answered in the updates to come. |
| Kyllorac 2008-04-19 ch 20, | abuse“He has me under a spell,” Jade said. “The tomato broke it, but he is regaining control quickly. Please, help me.” - The tomato broke it. XD Brilliant. I fell out of my chair laughing at that. |
| Raidho 2008-04-18 ch 22, | abuseI don't read many stories where I can hardly contain my anticipation for further chapters. But this? Giddy, I think, is the right word. This story delivers exactly what it promises thusfar, executed well: a spoof of fantasy tropes with a large dose of the ridiculous, but enough drama to mix things up and make the characters genuinely intriguing. In fact, I don't think there's a character in this I don't like. And for two people writing it, your styles blend almost seamlessly. |
