Brilliant! Really, really brilliant! I love the heroes' assumption that Britta isn't the Overlord. Have you ever read Diana Wynne Jones's "Tough Guide to Fantasyland"? I think you'd like it, it's just your style. She has an entry titled Dark Lord, and right above it, an entry titled Dark Lady. It goes something like this:
"No one in the Management has ever provided a Dark Lady. There seems to bean assumption that the gentler sex cannot muster up enough evil for the job."
What if, when an Evil Overlord dies, he leaves his entire kingdom to his close female friend? Hm... you can use that if you want, but if you don't, I will.
