I like the very gothic-esque feel of it, suspenseful yet dark. Now, the whole idea of "open (up)"... do these living shadows want to escape over to the real world or something? And who exactly is talking to him? You don't exactly have to answer these questions to me right now, since that's the beauty of literature.
