Reviews For: nights of wine and cotton
Lachrymosa 2007-09-18 . chapter 1
Wow.
I love your use of symbolism. Some of your writing remind me of symbolist poetry - Rimbaud, Mallarme, etc. (or, rather, what I perceive from symbolist poetry). Vivid images that jar in my mind, yet fit together.

I think there are different intreprations one can put to this poem... the mother part was pretty cool... but personally I like how everything "mashes" together, how the lines melt and fuse, like the tired-delusional feeling you get on sleepless nights. Keep writing!

I am completely at a loss as to why this has no reviews. It is insanely beautiful. I can tell you right now that this is going on my favorites. I love love love using wine in poetry, even though I'm not a huge wine drinker myself. There's something really so poetic about wine in the first place, which lends itself so wonderfully to poetry. Just fantastic. I can't even describe the parts of this I enjoyed the most, because it was all really so great for me. There are all these unexpected images, like suddenly "red grapes suckling the Italian sea where they dredged your mother's body." That comes out of NOWHERE, and it's this jarring image that makes you sit up & pay attention to the rest of the poem. Really, everything about this is beautiful. I love it. Best poem I've read in awhile. Keep writing! :)
