As opposed to it being emo, I actually found it to be kind of the opposite. I read it as kind of hopeful, accepting that life has its downs and that you're not alone in your struggle. I could be way off the mark here, but that's how I read it, and I enjoyed it. I definitely think that it could be improved (there are some places that the rhyming seemed forced and the flow was a tad off. I don't know how the music goes so I could be wrong, but I'd sing through it and try to pick out any places where the flow seems off and tweak them.) But that's really all it needs is a little tweaking. You've really got something here, and rather than coming off as emo and whiny, it comes off as empathetic towards other people, kind of a "lets get through this together" sort of peice. Nice job.
