| love from hell 2008-02-14 ch 1, | abuseah, i love you. defender of emos :] everyone hates them for some reason. not all emos are whiny people. emo should be seen as a style/music, not a way of life in which people complain all day. |
| Serj'sLUVER-Yea 2007-12-16 ch 1, | abuseI agree with you! People shouldn't even say anything about emos; they should just worry about themselves. Good Job :) |
| ghostless87 2007-08-08 ch 1, | abuseHm...where to begin? Well...already stated in one review is a definition and brief history of the "emo" origin. Also, I'd like to point out that emo has become a trend even among middle-upper class suburban teenagers, you really have nothing to be depressed about, but they act that way because it's the "in thing." Emo is now the mainstream...its officially cool to be/pretend to be miserable. Some people are simply attracted to the music genre and accompanying fashion. Others truly do have mental disorders or problems and need help. On the upside, it's no longer taboo to be open with your problems and issues. A lot more people are seeking the help they need because they don't feel so alienated anymore. So sometimes the popularity of emo is good thing. On the downside...some people may fall prey to the media and mainstream's view of emo, along with the stereotypes. They may mold themselves in to the emo lifestyle to fit in or be trendy. Some even go so far as cutting themselves and creating mental problems where there were none before. Every subculture and lifestyle has its ups and downs. It can help as much as if can hurt. I hope people try to be open-minded about different kinds of people and why they are the way they are. |
| chreia 2007-07-27 ch 1, | abuseActually you clearly don't know much about what an 'emo' is yourself. You seem to define yourself by the popular stereotype, which, well, if you're proud of that then good for you, but the term 'emo' is just short for emotive/emotional hardcore, which is a genre of music. I happen to listen to it occasionally. So technically, unless that's what you listen to, then you're not an emo anyway. "If you have anything against Emos, you are saying that you have something against depressed people, and that, my friend, is prejudiced." Sorry, what? 'Emo' is not a synonym for 'depressed'. "This man has obviously just lost a wife or fiance, and you ran off" He could be talking about a prized racehorse. Assuming it was a mare. Or he could be a very patriotic Russian who's been exiled from Mother Russia. "Get some freakin help!" Surely that's good advice, no? I don't have a problem with the music, although the majority of it consists of major label losers jumping on an already overloaded bandwagon, and I don't have a problem with people who are depressed. Two people in my family suffer from depression, and neither of them are emos, funnily enough. If anyone is stereotyping here, it's you. Other than that, a wonderful essay. Congratulations. |
| Beatletastic 2007-07-26 ch 1, | abusePerhaps, if you expressed yourself in a more efficient and less acusatory tone, people would be less judgemental. Most of your examples are wildly exagerated. Really, I don't have a problem with depressed people, nor do I have any real grudge with emos, but all I get from this essay is that this one particular emo is angry with a particular stereotype, but still subscribes to other stereotypes. Not all depressed people are emos, nor are all emos depressed. As far as I know. But for all I know, I could be completely off the mark. |
| Fractured Illusion 2007-07-26 ch 1, | abuseWhile trying so desperately to prove a point, you lose it instead. "Emos are just depressed people" , "Think about it, in my parents’ generation, there was no such thing as 'Emos'. They were just depressed people who needed some help." Tell me, wherein lies the difference? And what does it matter? The depressed people got themselves a name now. So what? Society does this, just as they do with "gangstas", "preps" and such. "If you have anything against Emos, you are saying that you have something against depressed people, and that, my friend, is prejudiced." And if you say you have anything against the Barbie people, that is just prejudice as well. I agree that all emos don't have to cut. Same with goths and any of those stereotypes. You have proven no point. Where you speak for not being judgmental, you prove you are not open minded either. When you speak that emo's have been exaggerated, so are your portrayal of other people than emo's in this essay. Only thing that you managed to prove was that you rather be a stereotype than to be yourself. I fail to see the deeper meaning in what a stereotype offers rather than just aim for being yourself. "Now, what's wrong with this picture?" A man talking to himself, for one. And wailing out to no one. Not normal I have to say. He really needs some help. >.> "This man has obviously just lost a wife or fiance, and you ran off." Why is other people's business everyone elses? Why can't we respect privacy? Why do people have to help a stranger when they have their own problems (that they also handle much more gracefully)? Everyone is selfish and generosity can't be expected. We don't live in no Paradise, you know. I'm sorry but I don't get the point on this essay. No I am not flaming you. No, I am not anti-emo. No I don't hate you. No. Just no. |
| Snip2r 2007-07-26 ch 1, | abuseA lot of people (mostly guys) doesn't like 'Emos' because they don't understand the emotions that are running lose in 'Emos'. Many people deal with things differently. 'Emos' are just a lot more expressive about it... I guess its like a difference between artists and how they let out their ideas. I believe that I'm not an 'Emo'. But I try to understand them, and I believe come quite close in knowing them. I know the feelings they have and respect them... up to a point of course. Using your example, about the man; If I knew him I would try and help out, so that he can move on. But if he was saying all those things simply because he wants attention and/or extending the suffering (say he was still saying that after two-three months) then I would be rather annoyed at him. |
| poisedtokill 2007-07-26 ch 1, | abuseAll I got from this is that Emos are depressed people that need help. And that you're proud to be depressed. |
| The Cowardly Lion 2007-07-25 ch 1, | abuseI agree! |
| natorgasm 2007-07-25 ch 1, | abuseDAMN STRAIGHT! Well said. |
| Exodus.Escence Of Sin 2007-07-25 ch 1, | abuseI like this one. When i read the title i thought it was going to be trashing of emo's but yeah, totally agree with you. I cutt and people used to call me a wannabe emo, not all emo's cutt, and not all cutters or people with depression are emo, it's just some steriotype people put other people in. it's basically wothless. But yeah, i agree with you. (add to my favs.) good job!! parentheses in eternity |
