So, I just read the whole thing so far and it's not a bad job, not fantastic, but not a disaster. So I guess there a two things a review needs to address, and those are writing style and subject matter.

The premise and set-up are good, it takes a basic cliche and gives it enough different spins to make interesting and original. Having said that, you really need to have thought the whole situation thought through a bit better.

Exactly how do these relationships work? Are they for breeding purposes? Survival? How did the whole scenario come about? Are they different species? Or are they different subsets of the same species? Kind of like a species that has both male/female and human/demon dichotomies to determine mates - if that makes sense. Or if they are different species, then why this co-dependence? I know it's kind of fun to just run with it, but in the end, it's going to be much more satisfying for both yourself and the reader if those kinds of questions can be answered. Especially seeing as you do have this whole underlying political upheaval going in the background. I know you have some explanation but it's really not clear, have humans and demons been battling this out forever? Are demons new on the scene? You get the idea. Things like that really bring the story into the fantasy genre, which is really about getting the reader to interact with the dilemmas of the universe you've created, as opposed to just following a bunch of high school romances. Unless that's what you were going for, which is also fine, but I do think that this has the potential to be more.

Furthermore, you need to be more careful with the physical world that you're portraying, you had some other story thing up that said that this was supposed to be set in the 40s or 50s. I'm not buying that at all. The only reference I got to support that were the "penny novels" that were mentioned twice...and I'm pretty sure Americans called them "dime novels". These boys say "dude," and swear casually, they speak like 21st boys, and you don't have enough description, of settings, clothing (leather pants and guys wearing nail polish?), everyday objects to convey the idea that this is set in the past. Also, you need to make up your mind as to whether or not this is a society that accepts homosexuality or not. Because you've said somewhere that it does...but most of the evidence (Brad's dad etc.) points to it being homophobic.

Actually, a little more description, would benefit the characters too. Help define who they are are people, they're likes/dislikes outside of the whole demon mess. I think you really did that nicely with Brad and Mark standing in the middle of the football field. I'm fairly certain that that's my favourite scene. Also, Mark's loneliness, that he has no one to really take a true interest in him to the point where he willingly spends time with a man who has raped him (and it was rape, he didn't want it, turning him gay doesn't change that - a gay man can still be raped by another guy). But the other's could do with the same treatment, and I'm sure Brad and Mark have other interests. Also try to keep it consistent - I think Brad's hair changes colour, it was blonde in the beginning and I think it's brown now.

The other issue is that I really think that you need to take a closer look at the relationships you're portraying. None of them - aside from Cosette's and her's only a minor one - are even remotely healthy, the power balance is skewed far too much in the favour of demons for that. I know that the whole human emotion influences demon emotion is used to show that the power balance is equal but that's just not true as has been demonstrated numerous times...when a human is faced with an angry or aggressive demon, especially the human boys, they tend to get scared and therefore angry and aggressive themselves, which inevitably ends badly for them and puts them at an even weaker position than before.

You could have the demons coming to better terms with these kinds of relationships, and you've tried that at least with Brad and Zero when Brad explained how many sacrificed he's made for Zero and that he wants to date as a way of getting Zero to see him as more than precious possession, or when Bryce stated that if Zero continued to treat Brad like a girl he'd lose him...but that didn't happen. Zero treated Brad appallingly, insisted that they were marrying without consulting Brad, Brad got angry but ended up missing Zero and running back to get marked days after Zero attacked him in a classroom. It's just not realistic. It makes Brad seem like he's being coerced into the whole situation, Stockholm syndrome or something like that.

The situation is even worse with Mark and Ezekiel. They really are an interesting pairing and their drama could have really been fun to play out. But effectively what you have is a series of sexual assaults on Mark. The first time at the ball, and seriously, Mark is probably one of the bravest, and most likely one of the stupidest people I've ever read about for going up and confronting a man who assaulted him and bit him minutes after the event, but it could have been the start of something interesting, as Ezekiel begins to acknowledge that he underestimated Mark and comes to realise that humans aren't just sex toys. And then you get this chapter. And it's rape. No two ways about it. Mark is scared shitless that Ez is going to f*ck him. He's literally described as trembling. The boy is terrified, and really doesn't want this to happen. And then, just because Ez turn him gay or whatever, he ends up liking it. That's ridiculous. I said this earlier but just because all of a sudden he finds guys hot doesn't mean he's going to want to get screwed by Ez. Just because you're attracted to that gender, and just because a particularly attractive member of that gender is coming on to you doesn't mean you want, or will enjoy the sex. Especially if you've been abused that particular individual before.

Granted you really could have Ez change his ways and Mark finally grow to trust him. But it should take time, and massive amounts of effort on Ez's part. Seriously. Because the same thing happens again and again. Human doesn't want to, demon doesn't listen. Human gives in.

E.g. He held on tighter, trying to ignore the human’s emotions that were telling him to let go. He would take anything he could get. He could feel Mark’s resistance ebb, and his lust start to grow. This was incentive enough.

Okay, getting off soapbox now. I guess the only reason I'm so up in arms about this is because it really has the potential to be quite good. You handle the ensemble nature of the work quite well. And you have a nice balance of pairings chosen to illustrate the different facets of the world you've created and the cultural conflicts brought about but the human/demon integration. Zero/Brad and Mark/Ezekiel show (or should show) the ways in which both groups have to make changes and sacrifices to make the integration of the human and demon worlds work with a focus on the individuals. Riley/Orin shows a more academic and principled approach to this, illustrating the greater morals and ethics at play and interacts with the more political issues. Or at least Orin does. Riley really has very little personality at this point and he's really not interacting with Orin on the same playing field at all. It's typical dumb jock going after the smart kid, he just has no idea what's going on, what he's doing wrong or why. Dietrich/Jake is about class differences...well actually no, it's about abuse as well...but abuse and class differences. That Dietrich is a spoilt brat who thinks that he can blackmail Jake into loving him...whew. It's going to take more than rescuing Jake from gaol to restore that trust.

Okay...this is long. Stopping now. But yeah. Lots of issues but still. Potential. Good job.

thanks for the update...I can't believed I missed it...but then again I was doing a lot of school work. I liked this chapter because it shows the deep emotions of the characters, and their resignation to the Demon's emotions...For example, like Mark and Zeke...and Riley bit Orion...I wonder how that will work out, wansn't Nate close to the door. I do feel bad for Bryce...he seems so lonely. And poor Zero...Brad hurt him, I wonder how it will work out...Jake's charges got dropped? I still wonder how he killed the Demon? Was it just strong hatred emotions, or something else?

I see that you've read Boys over Flowers (k-drama version I suppose). Did you know that the series is also a j-drama and a tw-drama? It's called Hana Yori Dango in Japan, and Meteor Garden in Taiwan.

Some other dramas you may like include: Kimi Wa Petto, One Litre of Tears, Hana Kimi (both Japanese and the korean or taiwanese version), Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi), Why Why Love (tw-drama), Devil Beside You (tw-drama), Honey and Clover, Akihabara @ Deep (an otaku drama basically).
