I really, really liked this poem. It was very powerful and I can empathise completely. I know how helpless you can feel, watching somebody you love struggle with something like this. You've put it into words beautifully.

I think a semi-colon would work nicely at the end of line 8. Maybe after line 12 too... I like semi-colons.
