abuseThere's a mistake in your title. There should not be an apostrophe in "it's".
It's = it is
Its = possessive, belonging to it.
That might seem like a nitpick, but it's important to get your title right, as it's hard to take the rest of your essay seriously if it's not.

I agree with your basic point.

abuseI've only skim-read your piece because I'm on my way out, but I thought I probably owed you a quick thought on the matter if not a full review.

I think it's largely a semantic problem. It's cumbersone to say "certain parties making up the power majority of the Iranian government have threatened the state of Israel," especially in a newspaper headline. I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed in someone for using "Iran" as a synonym for certain components of Iran any more than I'd be disappointed in someone using the word "Shakespeare" when they really mean a certain passage in the Tempest. I understand you're attempting to challenge xenophobic reactions and I applaud you for that, but by the same measure do not assume that everyone who decries "Iran" for something the Iranian government did automatically has a grudge against all Iranian people.

Your article is sense. It's a shame it's not common sense... but then, you wouldn't have had to have written it in the first place.

abuseHow nice to see something like this instead of the xenophobic, 'patriotic' views usually expressed on this site. I couldn't agree more with what you've written. Besides what you said about democratic nations and governments, it's notable that MANY, MANY populations are still oppressed by their government. The last paragraph on cultures was also interesting; so many people actually pride themselves on never having left Kansas or wherever their state is. What's so great about nationalism?
