| pencil stub people 2008-07-20 ch 1,  | abuseThe change from "papá" to "el Papa" to "la papa" is a nice play on words. I love that each stanza ends with a small, simple, sad statement, and that each of those ending lines makes the reader curious about the circumstances of each "papa." The similar structures of the stanzas is nice, and helps to connect them beyond the identical spellings of each noun. The only thing I would say is that the third stanza is a bit less mysterious than the other two--the first stanza makes me wonder why "Papá" no longer lives in the house, and the second makes me wonder why, exactly, the followers of "el Papa" do not smile to see him, but the third stanza says right out that "la papa" is growing moldy, so that element of curiosity is not as strong. This certainly held my interest, and has reminded me of why I enjoyed learning Spanish! |
