Kanika Sanura 2008-07-05 . chapter 25I know I've only read one of your stories, but I am amazed at how well written it is! It's really pretty hard to find a very well written story in the context and style that I enjoy reading. But, I can't really harp on other's because my writing isn't very good at this moment in time... I really wish I had more time to work on them, To Wars End is in great neglect, sadly. I was wondering if I could ask you a favor. If it's at all possible, could I come to you if I should ever need help with one of my stories? My forte is yaoi and I know pretty much what I'm doing in that context, but I'm afraid my style is in need of assisstance sometimes, though I hope I'm getting better.
But on to the actual review. I loved how much description you put into each chapter. The best part of reading a story is being able to envision it with ease. I was also pleased to note that you kept your characters IN character. It's so easy for them to change over time into something that wasn't at all part of the plan. I'm looking forward to reading more of your stories!

frolic-horror 2008-05-20 . chapter 25Great story. I love the fact that you don't just write mushy slash. You actually have a complex story to tell. Love you :D
Alonzo is my favorite character. He’s actually the true ruler of the kingdom, he’s a cool bureaucrat (can’t believe you pulled it off… lol), with a devious mind but good intentions (because he’s a TRUE public servant -> his goal is the good of the country and its people). But the cherry on top of this is that he is so slutty (in the best way). I kept wondering if he’s the bottom or the top, because even if you clearly presented him as the seme in one of the scene, there were others in which things were not so clear. I’m guessing that he enjoys both positions (because he is that type of complex character) which makes me love him even more :P
Dahl ending up being supported by Evan’s salary is so cute. Made me giggle :)
Thanks for writing this story :P |
Mademoiselle Rouge 2008-04-27 . chapter 25Aww the end's so cute.
I've really enjoyed reading this story. It's well written and very sweet and I love every single character you've created. I'll definately be reading your other stories! |
sylenctone 2008-04-24 . chapter 25This is one of those moments where I don't know whether I'm happy or sad. I'm absolutely thrilled with the way everything turned out for everyone. But I'm horribly sad that this was the last chapter. I suppose it can't be helped, the story has been told and they can all live reasonably happily for the rest of their natural lifespans, but I love this characters so much that I know I'm going to miss them. While you've tied up all the particularly *loose* ends rather nicely, there are still a couple things that I'll wonder about each time I re-read it. (And I will re-read this, I always do.) I wonder what the visiting summers between the two royal families will be like and whether Anisia and Vardon will have kids soon. I wonder whether Analise and Lasha will hit it off and what Evan's mother will think of Dahl. I wonder about everyone's future and the future of the two contries, and while I'm reasonably reassured that everything will go realistically well, I can't help but be curious. I'll just have to imagine it for myself I suppose:) But I digress.
As to the actual content of the chapter, rather than the things one overly curious fangirl wonders about, I'm just so pleased. My face hurts from grinning so hard, I'm that pleased. I love that Evan will be staying on as Lord High Surgeon. I'm sure Dahl will get used to the idea of being a kept man! I suppose my worries about the populace demanding Dahl be king were unfounded. Vardon was so well received, perhaps more so because he was delayed in taking the throne. Everyone had become so anxious for things to get back to normal that they were glad to accept him, and once they did, they realized he's twice the man his father was. Anisia is perfect for him as well, complementing his strengths and supplementing the areas he's weaker in. She will be a wonderful Queen. It was wonderful to get another glimpse at Analise. I'm really very fond of her, and Lasha was adorable, asking Evan's permission to court her! Once again, I do hope that goes well. Joss' reminder at how far they've all come, combined with Cherise's point about Evan really worked to give a feeling of accomplishment and closure (despite my earlier musings). Evan has changed himself and the entire country for the better, and all because he allowed himself to love Dahl. This was a beautiful end to an entirely engaging and lovely story
I've probably outdone myself with my verbosity again, but I seriously can't get enough of your work. Every story of yours that I've read is uniquely enthralling and wonderful. I've said it many times before; Thank you, very much, for writing and sharing your creative mind with us all!
Sincerely,
Your unabashedly effusive fangirl,

sylenctone 2008-04-10 . chapter 24Although I myself have called for Vidar's death for all this time, I can't help but agree with Evan. It is rather sad when anyone, let alone a king, dies and no one really mourns. I suppose it is a reflection upon how lonely and joyless his life was. Of course I'm still glad Alonzo killed him! And I'm not in the least surprised that Dahl guessed it right off. Keho's acknowledgment of Dahl did surprise me a little though. And Dahl should listen. To earn the respect of such a man is a rare thing.
As for Dahl and Evan's reunion, it was delicious! To miss each other so much after so short a separation, they really are two halves of the same person. And it must seem like a gift that they no longer need to hide their devotion to each other. I worry though, that the general populace may try to hang on to Dahl once he starts his duties as Regent. I know *he* has every desire to step down as soon as Vardon returns but I worry that the rest of the kingdom may not have faith in the prince.
I do feel rather bad for Vardon too. He is only now experiencing 'family' as most people know it. He's had precious little joy in his life, and I'm very glad he's found it. Particularly that he's found it in his inlaws-to-be. That can only be good. I'm so excited for the wedding too! Delightful!
(and on a somewhat unrelated note, I'm very excited to hear you're planning a sequel for 'The Wizard of Bright Isle'! I must say, I rather agree about the kings. Vidar did deserve it, though, while King Heston's murder was unfounded. Now I'm off to delight in the Golden Teahouse!)
Thank you very much for writing! Your name in my inbox simply makes my day!

sylenctone 2008-04-03 . chapter 23Lord Alonzo is my hero. The man is brilliant, deviant, sometimes ruthless, always efficient, sharp tongued, quick witted, and wonderfully depraved. He'd make a fantastic tactician, and I've no doubt he'd make an excellent king, though he'd likely have less time to act so shamelessly with Mister Kimson. heh. Points to Evan for not only figuring out what happened to the King, but also why it was so important for it to be kept secret. He knows very well that Alonzo did the kingdom a favor. I just can't wait until Dahl comes back to court. Even though he has to be king for a while, I'm sure he'll manage to find time for Evan. And then he can hand control back to his happily married cousin. Heh. Keho may be old, but I've no doubt he'll make the perfect ambassador to Colchara. Oh this is just so exciting! I can't wait!
Thank you very much for writing!
