I liked how you used the cigarette as a metaphor throughout; first about not caring about living (why else would be make the statement unless he wanted to die) and then as a mold for the breakup itself. What I got from it is that not only is the boy self destructing, but also the relationship.

I feel like the narrator is using her observations as one final personality study of this boy. Keep up the good work.
