elisefey 2007-12-18 . chapter 1This story has a very film noir feeling from the beginning. I like that it has that kind of atmosphere and gives me a little of what to expect but still builds mystery and tension.
[but the brisk, neon rhythm of the cityscape] - Nice description. I like that.
There is some definite sexual tension between Sui Feng and Wei Jiang; but it’s not what drives the story, it’s more like an undercurrent to some other, darker tension that I can’t quite place--a distinct lack of trust. I like that.
[One of her breasts brushed distractingly across his shoulder, and he failed to notice Sui sliding her hand underneath his desk, or the barely perceptible click of something attaching itself to the underside of the dark wood.] - Her sexuality really is a tool for her, isn’t it? Anyway, I think this is what I was sensing earlier: that they really can’t trust each other. This line captures that perfectly.
I really enjoyed the fact that he turned out to be the dirty cop. I mean, I knew at least one, if not both had to be dirty, but it seemed more likely at first to be her since the pov focused more on Wei. But you handled it nicely.
All in all, the feel of this kind of reminds me of HK crime movies like Infernal Affairs (though obviously not quite that complex). But it has that same intense, dark blurring of lines that I like. Good job. |
