InSilverShadows 2007-12-19 . chapter 1this is really interesting and refreshing. I myself am a Roman Catholic, and mostly happy that way, although my journey in faith has been a particularly hard one in my church because I've had thoughts that i could be gay. I like that this isn't the sort of weary, aggro-defensive religious argument one usually sees in these sorts of religious essays. To quote a really great movie, 'Saved', "they can't all be right, but they can't all be wrong, either."
This was really insightful, really. I go to art school and the many athiests I know are only so because they think it's 'cool,' or they think it's rebellious, and the lot of them really don't know the first thing about what they really believe. Athiesm is a brave path--to face everything coming at you with the sort of stoic belief that you can handle it yourself, that you don't need a God to make you feel like a capable human being. I like that your dialogue contains your arguments to some other religions too, instead of only attacking Christianity.
This has really set something off in me, because I've always been really explorative of my own faith. I tried atheism for a while, and it didn't suit me--I'm not as courageous as you or as other people who have the will to face the unknown alone.
All things said, this was interesting and thought-provoking and i really thank you for it. |
