Rhythmically, I get a sense of a ball bouncing, periodically hit again, then slowing, then being bounced again; along those lines, it also resembles a heart beating under pressure, sort of erratically, but really it is just trying to beat quickly yet something won't let it. You may want to play some with rhythms; I see it as a potential characteristic style to your writing. And it fits the meaning well; people are often so very callous and blind.
