| Eclipsia Soulbird 2008-05-18 ch 1, | abuseMy dad called. He wants his long lost son back, lol. This is short but great. Well-written and funny. Despite its shortness, the characters are easy to connect to. |

| Mad Mistress of Death 2007-12-29 ch 1, | abuseThis is great... got me itchin for the yanks to come. It's kinda funny, I feel like a traitor, being in the Land of Lincoln and all that... Gah, I feel like slapping somebody, just the other day I watched a movie with a guy saying that Lincoln was his fav. president. It sent a cold shiver down my spine.. LOL. Thanks for calling me one of the best civil war writers! TTFN |
| eyes-of-a-hawk 2007-12-27 ch 1, | abuseHey, I'm ALIVE!! Jiminy Christmas, sorry I haven't reviewed or posted on your Civil War forum or updated in so long. Sophomore year at my high school is the toughest out of all four! I just had midterms, though, so I'm taking a break and attempting to catch up. Anyway, about this new story. It's great so far! I'm really impressed. I've been spending my free time reading Civil War fiction and reference books, &tc, so I can truthfully say you've really captured the essence of the time. The slang, mannerisms, everything is precise. Two things, however: 1. How can the soldier you mentioned in the first paragraph have a double chin and yet be slender? Perhaps you meant "cleft" chin. 2. A poor Reb would probably not be able to afford (or keep intact) "fancy-shmancy" brogans, even with a corporal's salary (it was only two dollars more than a private's, if they got paid at all). This late in the war, soldiers would have been issued cheap shoes, if any at all, and Corp. Cross would feel the cold earth through the many holes. ESPECIALLY since the Confederacy was in a rapid downward spiral after Gettysburg...in fact, Cross might've gotten the shoes from a dead Yank! (Ew.) And that was really sweet in the beginning...I'm glad you appreciate my writing! My classmates all laugh at me and my history, but someday, they'll learn... (Actually, the other day, a new girl walked up to me and said, "Hey, aren't you the girl who's really into the Civil War and history and stuff?" I had never met her before. (: ) Did you have a good Christmas? My parents gave me money to buy a Civil War dress with. I'm trying to decide between a plain pattern, like what middle-class women would wear around the house (so I could go to reenactments and whatnot) or a fancy ball gown. My friend invited me to a Civil War ball in Colorado next year...but that's a one-time thing, and I'd have to pay for my own plane ticket. What would you do? |
