I like the tone of this a lot it's very strong. My favorite part would have to be "What started as a charade A simple yet protective masquerade" And the last line is also a great way to end it, it stays with the reader.

Very nice work here. I like how you have some words in caps. It sets a nice tone to this piece. The reader (or at least me) can almost hear the narrator shouting to be heard. Lovely job on this.
