Love this beginning! I think it really gives away so much without giving away too much; like I can totally see your main character and even the boy she's writing to, because you give some description of his personality in the beginning. I love stuff where both people know all the details so they don't need to explain it at all, but the reader is left slightly puzzled. I love reading stuff like that.

I like this. I can't explain what it is, but there is something about this that is just interesting. I'm not really sure what I want to say (my thoughts are running around and I can't quite collect them), so I hope you'll bear with me.

I really liked the wording and tone of voice. It's seems gentle, but it has a lot of impact. Resignation makes my heart ache. The little specific details weaved into this make it seem so much more realistic. Good job. :D

(p.s.- I think the Roman Empire is one thing, so it would be "I liked it too.")
