At first I was thinking.. WTF, but that has to be one of the cutest stories I have ever read. Bittersweet, I must say my eyes were prickling.

that's beautiful :] a very original idea, written well too... i think not having the speech marks works for the flow and feel of the story :] love it, keep doodling in your history class :P
