SinfulWolf 2008-12-26 . chapter 1So very true. I'm in the Canadian military, infantry by trade actually, and I myself have run into a few of the same problems as you. I've been charged a few times for conduct unbecoming due to me... not letting men get away with harassment and wanting to do more than simply file some paperwork against them. Great piece. |
m.j. Roy 2008-02-03 . chapter 1 You make it seem like only men are sexist but the very fact that you are saying these derogatory things towards them implies that the sexism goes both ways.
Women and men ARE different. Men are most usually stronger, more authoritative and more aggressive. Women are more sensitive, emotional and usually weaker. That doesn't mean women are worse than men, we're just different. Some jobs are better suited for men because of their strength and authority and it doesn't mean a woman can't do it, but it WILL be more difficult. Men are more often respected because of how much more intimidating they are. That's why, as you say, people often aproach you, the woman, with their more personal problems. You are more sensitive and less intimidating than the men.
Women and men should be treated equally, you are right, but we are not EQUAL. We are different and have different strengths and weaknesses and sometimes people don't recognize this.
And women are not the only ones discriminated against. What about male nurses and secretaries? The sexism goes both ways. Remember that.
Well written essay otherwise. Keep writing. |
Seefu Slim 2008-02-02 . chapter 1I agree with many of the points you present, and they are very well thought out and written. However... You certainly don't acknowledge any other stand-points besides, 'men hate women, this is undeniable truth, and all are like this.' That is simply ignorant.
Naturally, there are many men who would do just what you have described -sizing up a women and making rude remarks- but women can, have, and always will make these, too, just as men will.
Another beef I have with this is that you assert that women are suggested not to join physical services, perhaps even barred from entering- This has nothing to do with hate, contempt, or any of that, but more to do with cold fact. Most women are at a physical disadvantage if they were to join, say, the army, even for women branches of said forces. If more emotionally and physically women join, then more women will be in physical jobs. Simple as that.
I'd also expect you, as a guard, to be more mature about name-calling and insulting- this comes with the job, and for you to think that these cases near the end to be about whether or not your genitals are a ** or a ** is simply foolishness. This could have happened to any person overseeing the entrance to a community, and any person could have lost their cool on said guard.
Overall, it is a good piece, with a few flaws in judgment, in my opinion. I'd like to see more from you! |
