I just read your rant (now, I use the word rant in a good way, I personally adore ranting) and I must say that I completely and utterly sympathize with you. While I have yet to encounter this myself with FP, I did once have a fanfic on the sister site (yeah, a fanfiction of all things) plagiarized. While a faithful reader spotted it and reported the incident, it still set my on high alert. Even now that I have a steady story I'm posting here- from a series I'm hoping to publish, like so many of our fellow authors here- I constantly comb through the summaries of other stories, my heart in my throat, worried that I'm going to find someone trying to claim my work as theirs.

The tiny fact I take comfort in is that when you do post anything on a site like this, it is clearly dated; same thing when you save a file to comp or disc. This way, if anyone ever tries to go too far with stealing a person's work, you have the power to stop them from getting credit from your effort for too long. I know, it's not a secure enough measure and sites really do need to work hard to protect their authors, but realistically, that may not happen any time soon, simply because even with protected sites, if a person is devious enough, they'll find a way to get in. And unfortunately the type of people we're talking about are the devious ones. I can't imagine that any decent person would feel any sort of satisfaction receiving praise for work that isn't theirs.

One more author to leave, it really makes me sad, but lots of my favorite stories have been removed, and I really understand the feelings.
