Julius Gillian 2008-02-12 . chapter 1Gun violence is a catastrophic way to solve problems and I resent the resolution in this poem. It seems to imply that being a loner, an antisocial, or an outcast dramatically leads to one 'designing' to pick off his classmates with guns for a means to be 'heard' and reconciling with themselves before they get arrested/shoot themselves.
I may testify because I am somewhat eccentric, a loner, and perhaps even an outcast. But I find solace in my family, my contacts online which I find meet my intellectual standards, and so forth and so on. I don't however, disagree with the fact that being unnoticed, whether intentional or not, does not make one lonely. My very strong view though, is that emotions such as loneliness and depression can be tended in better ways than with a murder weapon.
I don't find weapons seductive when faced with opposition that does nothing but ridicule me for the fun of it. Perhaps this is because I've learnt to be a very independent individual and look inward for happiness and try controlling my emotions. I'm also influenced by the philosophy of Buddhism, so that may be the reason I feel that going unheard has almost no direct correlation with gun violence.
I'm not sure the author even agrees with what's been written, or just felt like venting off an issue that's facing our nation today. |
