| Ena 2008-02-26 ch 1, anon. | abusei agree with you comletely. i often get thoroughly annoyed when my friends reply to a text message saying "LOL", i mean, how are you supposed to have a proper conversation when the other person can't even be bothered to write a full message. often if i don't have very much room left in a text or email, i will occasionally use abbreviations, but i use LOL in two contexts- laugh out loud and Lots Of Love. I agree when you say "I find this ‘evolution’ in our social communication just a bit sad" because it is! i do have to give a point for the people who dont agree here, writing long proper texts is slightly time comsuming, say, you wanted to let a friend know if you couldn't make it to a party/movie date etc and you had very little time to do it in, then slang messages in that occasion, or ones like it would be acceptable! thank you for putting your opinion out there! i hope you get a tonne of praise reviews! I've honestly never seen anyone serious about saying lol, and if they do, it's a joke, and usually it's not funny, so please stop talking about it because you're making them think it's funny. So by writing this, you are contributing to the erosion of humor, and, by extension, adding to the use of the word lol and the decrease of actual laughter, the exact thing you're crusading against. Shame on you, hypocrite. |
