| Angel-Leigh Jones 2008-07-22 ch 17, | abusehiya great story - i loved it. Your characters are very clear as to who they are and what they want. I loved how it ended for a moment there i thought that Cass was going to leave. Angel |

| violet blossom 2008-05-27 ch 3, | abuseHi, I've just finished reading Will and Claire's story and decide to read this one. And I love it! I like Cassidy's personality. Howeve, this story reminds me a lot of Bones. Both Brennan and Cassidy work in forensics and with bones and human remains. Both Nathan and Booth work in law enforcement and have history in killing people. I don't know whether you do it on purpose but I bet you line Bones a lot. You mentioned it before in other story i think.. |
| VelvetWriter 2008-05-18 ch 17, | abuseI enjoyed this story a lot. I think this might just be my favorite of your first three stories. Cassidy was a great character. I liked her abrupt manner and her habit of saying what was on her mind. The relationship between her and her McDreamy was wonderful. Again, the chemistry between the characters was very well written. I especially enjoyed this story as it surprised me. A lot of stories are somewhat predictable. This story did have its predictable moments, but it was written in a unique and creative manner. Again, I really enjoyed your work. |
| Strangely Natural 2008-04-29 ch 17, | abuse*Cassidy Hawkins was happy. Her ipod was connected to its portable speakers, blasting out Nickelback. She was sorting through the bones of someone who was long dead. And her feet were clad in brand new, hot pink Skechers. The tips of them poked out under her flared jeans, and every time Cass got a flash of the colour, she couldn’t help but grin. Pink was such an aphrodisiac. Countless scientific surveys confirmed it.* can’t ask for a more defining Cass moment than this one. She’s smart, professional to a “t”, and loves to rationalize her hormonal emotions making her a lil’ rigid, but I like her anyway ^_^ Nathan McCabe made an awesome entrance and exit now didn’t he? He is just what she needs to spice up her life. Make it a lil’ bit more romantic. A Valentine getting married on St. Valentine’s Day, oh the irony. *I’m sort of seeing this guy, and he asked me to find a date for his best friend. Apparently this guy has been down ever since something really bad happened to him.”* I’m guessing Mike is Rox’s date (though if he the mistake (sort of) didn’t happen we would’ve never have met Noah and now that would have been a shame.); and Nate is Cass’s date. Hmm I wonder what was that something really bad (that) happened to him. Nathan really is alluring, he’s understanding of a woman’s struggle to get ready, he can take care of living things like dogs and plants and he’s had his fair share of pain so he won’t be inclined to cause much damage (emotionally). Frankly I think he’s wonderful for now. *The restaurant was well decorated. Huge paper fans, decorated with painstakingly painted koi carp, or bridges and sunsets, adorned the walls. Tinkly Chinese music played over small speakers that hung in each corner. The carpet was a deep red, the tablecloths a delicate cherry blossom pinky-white.* well-decorated, is an understatement. * Perhaps Mike wasn’t in love – he seemed back to his usual crude self.* I don’t like him one bit. Crude is just one of his many faults. Cass certainly wasn’t kidding about the believing in lust not love thing if her nickname is: Queen of fun flings. But at least she’s happy: “I’m thirty, and I feel completely comfortable with being alone. I’m through my needy, attention-hungry twenties. I have you guys, and I have my work, and that’s enough for now.” I really like the rapport between Rox and Cass, just like I like it between Claire and Emilia. They get each other in their ways, experiences etc. Cass and Nate have senses of humor in common, lucky them. But he seems much more tame than her. The lady and the Tramp kiss suggestion was hilarious, she certainly speaks her mind. *But Nathan hadn’t just been any ordinary guy. Aside from the amazing chemistry, she had genuinely liked him, and she’d been seriously attracted to him.* aww she just so precious! She’s gonna make a great momma someday; she has so much heart, humor AND discipline, it’s wonderful. *As he stood there, waiting, wondering, his insides a tangle of nerves, it all came flooding back. Melissa, his first girlfriend at University. Autumn term. They’d indulged in a brief, yet passionate affair, before Melissa had been caught for plagiarism. She’d been expelled, and had been forced to leave the campus, and travel back home, thousands of miles away, to Canada. He’d taken down her address, and they’d written for a few months. Unbeknown to Nathan, Melissa had become pregnant. He’d remained unaware of this fact until six months ago, when Melissa had been killed in a motorway accident. Then, everything had happened at once. He’d found out many things in the space of a few hours: -he had a daughter; -her name was Fiona; -Melissa and her parents had moved to Boston years ago, which was why the letters had stopped; -Melissa’s mother, Barbara, had sorted through Melissa’s things after her death, and had discovered an unmailed letter Melissa had written to Nathan, telling him about her pregnancy.* jus woah, no wonder he can’t indulge in his crush on Cassidy, Fiona has just come into the picture. He must have cared for her mother a lot for him to remember her so instantly after what, 13 years? He sure is a loyal guy. I wonder what his old dangerous job was, hmm. Fiona is a complicated and well-rounded person; she’s generally ruled by her emotions like any normal thirteen-year-old, but she’s smart, an individual because she likes something not “cool”: science, and because she likes to amend what she thinks is wrong. She’ll get along great with Cass. You never adjust to losing a parent, it will always eat at you in some way, just less at certain times, Fiona is managing very appropriately. *Cassidy closed the door behind them, and sighed a deep sigh. She didn’t want to dismiss them all. Students were needed for grunt work, and their presence gave the sterile lab a bit of life. She hoped she wouldn’t have to carry her threat through.* she’s very tough, but she’s got heart, and serves he well. It’s ironic or very well-researched of you to name Cass, “Cassidy” because I just found out it means clever, intelligent and curly-headed, perfect to describe her hair (and red because “Cassidy” is celtic too, they are known for their red hair), and she’s super smart. Claire is so considerate, she wants Will to have some male friends too, how kind and thoughtful. Nate is right, Will hit the jackpot big time. The end of chapter 8 was just beautiful, a sigh inducing moment. The comment Cass made to Greg was perfect: “Seriously, Greg, I am flattered, but I am very unimpressed.” Yes, he could have been noticed another less shameful and hindering way. The birthday morning scene was lovely, showed, not told, the evolution of a good girl, dealing, trying to be better. Careful and sweet moment. Cass and Fiona make total sense, they get each other, considering they both have the same marvelous passion for science. The nuclear reactor experiment was totally nuts, wish I could have done that in chem class long ago! Plus Fiona is so cool, trying to bring Cass and Nate together like that, SO CUTE and nice of her. Cass and Emilia have a reserved connection don’t they, but because they’re both open-minded it helps bring them together. *“That’s Cameron Bailey.” Will shook his head, laughing. “We went to college together, in Canterbury, and then he went off to drama school somewhere.” He squinted at the screen. “I didn't recognise him for a moment - he was always so skinny.” Emilia pursed her lips. “He seems to have filled out quite a bit,” she said, openly admiring the actor’s lithe body and firm muscles, showing under the mantle and surcoat he was about to rid himself of. “Did you know him well?” Will nodded. “Pretty well. We weren’t the best of friends or anything, but we got on quite well. Jesus.” He grinned. “He sent a card to my agent the first time I hit The Times bestseller list. Nice to see he made it, too.”* now we see how the future soulmates meet virtually, what a great way to induce curiosity and introduce a new plot, smooth and right. The bonding and discussion between Will and Nate at the beginning of chapter 11 was touching. How they compare their ways of falling, and how different whilst so similar their subjects of affection really are. Great scene. My goodness Fiona is hilarious. The way she gave her dad permission to “pursue” Cass for all intensive purposes and then some ^_~ his reactions were hilarious, how her words flowed from one important subject, setting and clarified, to another, who looks to have a positive start thanks to her. She’s a great kid, I like what she is and what she’s being, very much actually. *Birds twittered in the naked trees that surrounded the cemetery. The cold winter sun shone down. Wind circled Fiona as she sat still, deep in thought. It wasn’t a cold wind, but a warm one, and it made her feel comforted.* beautiful scene, metaphoric. I’m so happy she’s coping, and loving her mother and father. She’s so astute. *Finally Cassidy said, her head cocked slightly to one side, “And how do you know so much about companies that make armour and chainmail?” Emilia looked at the floor and said, “I don’t. It’s just a random fact that... that I know. Some people know random facts. That’s allowed.”* you were steadily preparing us for Emilia’s story and secret profession, lots of hints everywhere… * He seemed to relax then, and Cassidy felt better. He lifted their joined hands to his lips and kissed her knuckles. The gesture was so romantic, and so completely unexpected, that Cassidy swore she felt her heart turn over.* gorgeous scene. * If those two statements were both true, why did she feel such a terrible sense of turmoil at leaving New York?* well here is the big question, the soul-searching one, which do you love more, your job and all it’s opportunities that come and go, or a man with a lovely child which might never recover from you but would never begrudge you for following your dream? * Nathan’s shoulders slumped. Cassidy’s eyes had gone starry when she’d spoken to the Roman remains. “You’re lost to me already, aren’t you?” He pushed back from the table and stood. “The fact of the matter is, Cassidy, that I love you, and so does Fiona. But if this is what you want, then we won’t stop you.”* I guess she made her decision. Her job is her top priority, but it won’t keep her warm at night, she should know that by now, considering her past “adventures”, but if she’s still panicking now, she will always be in some way, and he or Fiona doesn’t that. She’s selfish and cowardly, but at least she knows what she has lost, hopefully in time to fix it all. The post-breakup morning scene was powerful indeed, it showed great depth to her pain, and I liked it a lot, all her reflections and the like. Awesome sentences: *Death was sort of an abstract concept, like happiness, or sadness, or love. You couldn’t hold death, put it in a box, or dissect it, just like you couldn’t study love under a microscope. Cassidy was a firm believer in things that were tangible.* how interesting. *He reminded her of a cowboy, and she wondered if he said things like ain’t and this is real purty.* gah that was hilarious! *Real nice. The sound of him drawling over the “r” sound made something inside Cassidy tingle deliciously.* meow… *commanding her e-mail inbox to send and receive.* *Somewhere out there, someone’s wondering where this person is, and how they died.” “I’m not used to seeing them reduced to this,” he murmured.* someone has painful memories lurking around. * He’d faced down the barrel of a gun. He’d held makeshift bandages to knife wounds. He’d chased dangerous criminals down alleys filthy with human waste and used needles. Why did a blind date scare the hell out of him? It made absolutely no sense.* * Friendship was a strange burden to bear.* * Lots of people ate alone in restaurants, but society made it seem like such a stigma.* * bright pink monstrosities.* Cass would scowl at you horribly for that comment hehe. * Proper love, with stars and garters* just a great sentences. *She didn’t understand love, and didn’t care for it and all the complications it brought along with it. People who did find love, true, lasting love, like Claire had, were very lucky.* this is such a relatable sentence, it’s fantastic, spoken like a true scientist. *her self-confidence was as dazzling as bright morning sunshine.* I’ll say! *to quote John Cusack in High Fidelity, “it’s what you like, not what you are like.””* *Cassidy began to load the glasses she’d wrapped into a cardboard box, carefully laying two sheets of bubble wrap between each few glasses. They looked expensive, so she wasn’t taking any chances.* she’s so considerate, I love how she’s such a good objective and helpful friend with a straight-to-the-point out look on life. *Why was it that he could dodge bullets, scale wire fences, and handle a sniper rifle without a problem, but when faced with his own child, he all but broke out into a cold sweat?... A man who could handle hostage negotiations could handle a twelve-year old girl.* geez, what was he an assassin for the government or CIA or something? *She didn’t say much, but he was immensely relieved that what she did say wasn’t coated in pre-teen venom.* *It wasn’t only to tell me about Fiona and her mother. I know that because you still have an odd look on your face – like you’re weighed down by something.” “You certainly have my pegged, don’t you?”* she sure does ^_~ He is a good and considerate father, thinking of a surprise like this, proving he listens to what Fiona has to say and fixing his relationship with Cass, he so clever, I love it! So efficient, smoldering and happy. *The four women were spending the evening in Claire’s new home. They had savoury snacks. They had haribo. They had Troy on the DVD player. Everything was perfect in the world.* *Roxanne scoffed. “A hot thing like you, the definite possibility of sex, and he has to go back to work? He has his priorities wrong.”* heh great Rox moment. *Then Brad got nearly naked for a moment, and everyone’s eyes were fixed on screen. There were no words for quite some time.* heh’s Cass’s comment is so right after this. *“Maybe I should have taken his number instead. I so prefer it when the ball is in my court.” “But this time, you aren’t in control,” Emilia summarised. “It’s okay. You can relax. Wait for him to make his move. If he couldn’t stop himself from kissing you yesterday, I don’t think it’ll take him long to call you.”* Em is so smart, just love her. *She’s finally started to leave her room some evenings,” he said, his voice lowered. “It’s amazing how that little thing has made me feel so victorious.”* so precious, he wants her to be happy and extroverted, how utterly sweet! *Hope, even though it was an abstract concept and couldn’t be verified, still grew in the thorniest of places.* stunning, such a metaphor for her metamorphosis. *I think the dog – Maverick – helps a lot. He knows when she’s sad. I sometimes go past her room in the evening, and I see her spread out on her bed. Maverick’s there too, and he’s sitting by her, his eyes trained on her face, like he’s protecting her.”* beautiful. *Cassidy smiled. Nathan had no idea just what a good father he was.* he really doesn’t, maybe that’s a good thing for now, it keeps him trying until things really settle in then he can be more laidback and focus more on his life. *Nathan smiled a teasing smile at her. “Okay. You said “it’s nothing.” Does that actually mean nothing, or is “nothing” the female code for “something I don’t want to tell you”?” Cassidy laughed. Her heart felt lighter. “You’re down on the secret code of women worldwide, I see.”* adorable. She’s right her chemistry, huge as it is, it’s gonna come to a head. But she’s kind and won’t let that lead them somewhere bad, somewhere that could hurt them and/or Fiona. *“All right. Let’s go drink some beer and make manly noises at each other.”* *Not as if fantasy crushes are limited. You can browse as much as you want, as long as you don’t go to the checkout.* *Drowning your sorrows in a pint becomes less appealing when you have people at home waiting for you.* that really makes me happy, WHAT amazing proverb. *I like being there for her. And I like that she’s there for me. That’s the crux of it, I guess – the fact that the other person’s always there, when you need them.”* and that’s what marriage, a good one, it all about, and worth taking “the plunge” for. *inside, she knew it might not work out that way, not anymore. Not with him. She was starting to feel… Starting to feel. To feel things that she didn’t really believe in. Things that were about more than a rush of hormone-inducing, natural chemicals.* beautiful. *I’m not in love. I’m not in love, because my parents were in love, and they got married. And they were forever yelling at each other. They destroyed each other, and took away part of me in the process.* and there lies the meaning of her previous actions, philosophies and everything that kept and is keeping Cass from attaining peace with her paste nightmares, considering, she’s lucky enough to have found a good one. *“The thing is, it’s like, what does a few weeks mean? If someone has lived years, a week or so is nothing. Grandma and Grandpa wouldn’t let me wear black all the time, so I did my hair.” She patted her locks. “I wanted mom, if she could see me, to know I was still missing her. That I hadn’t stopped feeling sad, that I hadn’t, like… forgotten.” She fiddled with the cloth, staring at it, wrapping loose threads around her index finger. Then she laughed dryly at herself. “That’s stupid, isn’t it?” “No.” Nathan’s throat was dry. He turned off the taps, and came to stand in front of his daughter. “No, honey. It’s not stupid at all. That’s the nicest thing I think I’ve ever heard anyone say.”* I’d have to agree. *“Because I asked him. And he made a weird noise, and I thought he might choke on his pie. And he went a weird colour, the colour Jessica in my class went when someone asked if she had a crush on our teacher.” Fiona nodded, and smiled a knowing smile. “So I think he wants to do it with you.”* magnificent sentence, so perfectly structured, made me crack up with glee. She nailed them both, how awesome! *Love. Love, for this girl, who’d been through so much, and was so resilient. Who was so mature, and yet so charmingly naïve.* Fiona, to a t. *“You’re a man.” She poked him playfully in the chest. “You’re a man, and you’re going to call someone for help.” She shook her head, a big grin curving her lips, which were a rosy red from the lip gloss she’d applied earlier. “This ought to be documented.”* Heh I as just thinking that! They really are adorable together, such sweethearts! *As he did, he noticed that the cloud overheard looked like a rocket. It was pretty darn cool.* heh, always a boy. But he is very considerate, thinking to consult Fiona first, thinking if he’s moving to fast. *If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it’s meant to be yours.* best proverb, in while. * Will was starting to quite like American beer. He’d almost forgotten what his favourite Kentish ales, Spitfire and Bishop’s Finger, tasted like. That was bad of him. He’d have to go back to Canterbury soon, or find a way to get some shipped to America.* he doesn’t forget where he came from, how wonderful. He also gives very good advice, lucky, Nate. * Nathan pretended not to like the drama, as it was highly fictionalised and romanticized, but secretly he enjoyed the evenings when they were all together like this. He had friends. His daughter had friends.* he is such a kind soul. * “Hello,” she breathed into the phone, mortified and sick and in love.* just right. They really were a wholesome family: Fiona with her wise naivety, Cassidy with her insecure vivaciousness, and Nathan with is bold vulnerable open heart. I hope they all have a happy life a head of them and the new baby too in the future. Thanks for writing all these great stories; it’s a wonderful trilogy, meant to be read more than once. Take care, good luck, pleasant composing always! |
| RaspberryBob 2008-04-09 ch 17, | abuseWow. I loved this story! Bad bit - there were one or two minor grammatical errors, as well as transatlantic vocabulary confusions, but they didn't detract in the slightest from the story. I'm actually in tears from reading this! Well done... Bob |
