someone's sideshow 2008-02-16 ch 1,	abuseVery interesting story about a very sad period of history. I think I only noticed one historical error: WWII actually started before 1941 for the Japanese. It might not have been a full blown "world war" at the time, but in the early 1930s they took military action against China, breaking nonagression pacts, so in the beginning of the story, when you say that her country had been at war for 4 years, that is not quite true. The Japanese had been fighting the Americans for 4 years, but had been experiencing conflict for much longer than that. (Just so you know, I don't claim to be an all knowing WWII expert, but I'm fairly certain in my claims.) One more note: the ending paragraph, written from the POV of Katsuro, did not really fit well. The entire story was narrated by his sister, until that last paragraph. I might work better if you wrote the entire thing in third person, to allow for easier transition between narrators. I don't know. This was a great story, though. Adding the Japanese words and hints of Japanese culture is very effective in such a short piece. I liked it a lot.
BTN 551 2008-02-16 ch 1,	abuseThe grammer is perfect and the writing is not at all bad. However, most short stories focus on one specific event, not on a flashback. It would have perhaps been better if you'd made the story just about what happens in the flashback.
