Reviews For: Apathy Upon Walking
Rotem 2008-08-19 . chapter 1
Well-written, nice flow.

I like the line "(what else is dying that we aren't saving?)"

I don't necessarily agree with the message. I also think the part about what happened to the progressives could use a little elaboration. You're saying that "their voices were smoldered,/ feeble in their age a long time ago" which I assume means they just got old and hadn't passed on their ideals to the next generation, but when I see smoldered I tend to think of someone else putting them down, rather than them just dying out. (Wow that sounds bad lol)

Anyway, nicely written.

Charles Moretti 2008-07-26 . chapter 1
Alas, what can you do when apathy runs rampant- it's really the worst of beasts. At least people try to fight other negative emotions. I've had similar thoughts run through my head while wandering my university campus (I seem to wander it more than walk through it...), which is probably partly why I really liked this piece. It also helps that it's well written, lovely, and strong in emotion and in its message. There's a sense of despair to it all, but at the same time an air of optimism in your cry out to wake up the masses.
It feels as though as people get older, the life and passion is sucked out of them. I even noticed the difference after moving on from high school to university. There's a dreariness to the campus, a monotony to it all.
You've captured a very important message wonderfully. Well done.
Arcane D. 2008-02-28 . chapter 1
The way I see it is that no one cares for a reason. The fact that being concerned about morals, ethics and even social issues is a constraint that people are subconciously bound to. To be concerned about an issue... anyone can say they are but to actually live by it and act upon it is a different story. After being brought up the way society wants us to, and after being mislead by corporate liberal media for seventeen, eighteen and nineteen years... there finally comes a breaking point. A time when you stop caring, and believe that words and notions will not cause results, only action will. Frankly speaking, there are many who just don't give a rodent's behind period but there are those who believe that apathy is simply the politest course of action.

As always though, this was an enjoyable read. The structure makes it seems as if you're going off a tangent but the effect is much desired and needed to pull off a piece like this correctly.

see you next time.

it's been all too long since i've read your work. though this is far more politically charged now. i suppose college will treat everyone differently. i guess i'm both blessed and in quite unfortunate to be on a campus where not enough apathy exists. there seems to be a lack of rationale as far as things to care about when people do hold up signs for the invisible childern or displace me organization. one has to ask what about kenya, congo, and kosovo? i think apathy is part of the american way and though i agree with your heartfelt statements, i'm very strongly opposed to blind apathy - and quite frankly, far too many times people rush too quickly with their hearts not with their head.

as far as poetry is concerned, this is beautiful and mature. the lines speak for themselves, certainly a much more mature piece of work from you and i'm glad to see the changing style.

winston churchill said, "those who are young and are not liberal have no heart - those who are grown and are not conservative have no mind." hopefully, the students on your campus who don't have heart now, will have more mind later - and maybe then they will care about the world around them... and if not, suetonius wrote, "sex, wine and baths destroy our body, but what life is life without sex, wine and baths." ^^

a pleasure always to read your work,
kakyou
