Since the first flashback, I kept thinking, "So why haven't we heard anything about Chris in the present? Did he get drafted into some other section? Did he die?" And, well, now I know.

Wow. Wow. That was a brilliant way to end it, with that poem. This whole piece was absolutely stunning.
