Even though Rachel's character didn't have a particular amount of depth to her, I knew she was kind, and frankly, quite a bit like me. That's why...when she shook hands with the protagonist, I could tell that she would return the quarter. Such a simple gesture, yet so sweet. I think it was a means of return, meaning Rachel will be back someday.

Or at least, that's what I managed to gather. I liked the ending; it was hopeful.

[There was a strange sense of awkwardness as I sat there beside her, and every time I looked at Rachel, she would just be staring blankly ahead, at something distant I couldn’t see.] I don't know why, but I got a little choked up at that.

...I SAID I DON'T KNOW WHY! D:< Maybe because they seemed to complement and understand each other so well that it made me sad that he couldn't see what she saw in that moment. But then the thing about the silence - my goodness, their whole relationship was so lovely.

Adored the fact that this began and ended with a quarter.

I love the way this story is told in broken segments, almost. The chapter breaks were, at first, a bit irritating, but they align very well with the formatting and the simplicity of the way this piece is written.
