"a voice that screamed to him (he couldn't understand."--if the scream were given words, the story would get more information from beyond the narrator. Section IV works well this way, as a real-world contrast to Brandon's dreams. I like the themes of strain, crisis, and questing. Some more factual reference in the dreams would accent these themes.

Interesting story, I'd like to know who the man is and more about Malitt... slightly disturbing, but good :)
