| glimpses from an ivory towe... 2008-04-19 ch 1, | abuseWow, this is an amazing piece. So vividly written, a sharply cynical, bitter commentary on society, but entirely true. It reminds me of how the government has claimed to reduce hunger by classifying more people who would typically be called "hungry" as "food-insecure." That's a gentler term for "scrounging lunches out of garbage cans so you can eat today," isn't it? Unfortunately, people are determined to put their blinders (or sunglasses on) and pretend that the conditions around them don't exist. The ending was spot-on, but I loved the second stanza best. |
