I actually don't think I'd ever heard the song... The story it tells seems familiar, though...

But anyway, the story you wrote was superb. :)

Very well executed. I thought it'd be a little weird when I noticed the constant changing from him to her, but it worked smoothly.

About the fable thing...

I don't really think this is one, but that might just be me. (I have this thing – I blame Aesop's Fables for it – that a fable must involve talking animal characters and give some kind of moral lesson.)

But again, I don't know... It's probably just me.
