Wonderful. Heartfelt. A little cliche but not too bad. I love the bench ending. Great character development. Grammar wise, it could use some simple editing for tenses and word use. But lovely!

So, it's been a while since I first read this. Maybe three months or so. I remember stumbling upon it late one night, as I was going to bed, and then staying up for far longer than I should have to finish reading it. That, in and of itself, isn't unusual for me. Once I find a good fic, I can't put it down until I finish it. Then, normally, I forget about it within a few weeks.

What makes this story different, and what compelled me to write a review for it (when I so rarely do so), is that it's stuck in my head. I'll be doing something random, and I'll think about the characters. Or I'll get this weird compulsion to come read it again. I've come back to read it at least four or five times now, and I can't even put a finger on why. It's made me laugh, and cry, and stay up far past my bedtime :P (like, we're talking up-til-6am-after-programming-until-4am-and-with-class-at-eight). I've got no memory for details, but the story's just really stuck with me. Thanks for creating such a compelling and revisitable world, and thanks for giving us a window into it :)

I love this story. It made me cry for James and Mary. But it also made me remember how wonderful love between two people is. It's something I forgot and I needed a reminder for. It made me remember to stay happy because the world is dark and it's not going to change if I don't. Thank you for sharing your story. The reviews should be hundreds higher!

i really, really love this fic. it's the innocence in mary, it's bill and molly and it's james fighting a smile when he gets a letter. what i just don't like is the last chapters. i mean, wth? australia was too random, and it wasn't in james' character to send dead bodies to his father and girlfriend pretending that it was his corpse. it's so.. insensitive? and i dunno, i think you just lost the character development from there. i expected tears and all. but oh well.

That was great! I got scared there for a minute. Then I was like, no she wouldn't do that to us! Her reaction to him coming back was AWESOME! haha. made me laugh and read it again! Thanks for the story it was great!

This was such a beautiful story. Iread it straight through without taking any breaks lol. I loved the plot so much. I almost cried at the end. I love James and Mary as a couple and I'm glad it worked out that way. It was kind of like a Nicolas Sparks storyline, only without the lovers dying in the end. I'm sad about Bill dying, he was a good character and Lucy was awesome as well. I loved Mr Waters and Mary's dad. Good character development and great plot. I wouldn't change a thing about the entire story. You just needto check for a few grammatical errors but it wasn't anything major, it's not like it detracted from your awesome story.

Wow, that was so sweet, and wonderful, and amazing. I AM SO GLAD THEY GOT A HAPPY ENDING!! I was hoping it wouldn't turn out like Dear John, have you read that? It's by Nicholas Sparks...anyway, so nice, and I cried, a lot. But what can I say, I'm just a regular 17 year old, who is a hopeless romantic underneath her 'I am always together and I mean business' exterior lol. Super duper amazing:)

I really like this story, but some of the things people say seem way out of date. Like, when Mary says, "So you aren’t going to forbid my writing James?” That sounds like something a person living in the 18th century would say. The story is supposed to be set in the late 60s and early 70s, right? I don't think a dad in that time would be fobidding his daughter to write someone, or saying James would have to ask his permission to ask Mary out.

I don't know... that's just what I think. Sorry if I'm coming off rude, by the way! :) Not intended.

Anyway, like I said, I'm really enjoying it so far! :D

I really liked this story, not just because of the plot, but because of how well you wrote it. The characters were believable and I really understood them. I thought the ending chapter was a little rushed, but the end result was touching, and it just makes me feel like smiling. Thanks for writing, and keep it up!
